2. Personal Information
By using this Site, paying for and taking the CASPer Examination, you allow us to share your Personal Information, as well as your CASPer Examination answers and/or score (your answers, scores, and any rater or applicant support concerns are referred to herein as ” Examination Data “) with; (i) individuals or organizations that perform services on behalf of Altus, including persons involved in verifying the identity of users, those involved in scoring the CASPer Examinations, and those involved in maintaining, reviewing and developing Altus’ systems, procedures and infrastructure (including testing and/or upgrading our computer systems); and (ii) the Academic Programs. Notwithstanding the foregoing and for the sake of clarity, please note that only your Examination Data, and not your Personal Information, will be shared with individuals involved in scoring the CASPer Examination.
Altus’ use and disclosure of your Personal Information and Examination Data is limited to the purposes described in this policy and Altus does not otherwise sell, trade, barter, exchange or disclose for consideration any such information.
As further described in Section 7 below, you understand and agree that we may request / randomly access to your webcam and/or microphone during the account creation, registration, and test process to collect information to verify your identity and proctor the test. You hereby assert that such information is accurate and can be used to confirm your identity before, during and after the CASPer Examination.
Altus may issue to you a token to create an account, username (a “Username” ) and password (a “Password” ) to permit you to access Altus’ online services, or any other portal access portion of the Site (each an “Account” ). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password you use in association with your Account and are responsible for all activities that occur under your Username and Password. You agree to notify Altus immediately of any unauthorized use of your Username, Password or Account or any other breach of security. You further agree to log out and exit from your Account at the end of each session. Altus will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your Password or Account information.
When you register for an Account with the Site, you agree (i) to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by any registration form, and (ii) to maintain and promptly update such information to ensure it remains true, accurate, current and complete. If Altus has reasonable grounds to suspect that such information is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, Altus has the right to suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Site, and refrain from sending your Examination Data to the Academic Programs, without further liability to you.
4. Handling of Information
You understand and agree that both your Personal Information and your Examination Data may be stored, handled or processed in Canada, the US or a third country, including, without limitation, in the country where you are located, and such information may be transferred between any foregoing jurisdiction. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any such storage, handling, processing or transfer will be subject to and in compliance with all applicable laws.
Should you want your Examination Data and/or Personal Information removed from Altus’ systems, you may so request in writing. Upon receipt of your written request, Altus shall, without undue delay, delete such Examination Data and Personal Information, unless applicable law requires storage thereof. You understand that if your written request comes after your Examination Data and/or Personal Information has been shared with Academic Programs, Altus will have no control over the information already shared with such Academic Programs and you will have to contact them directly to have your Examination Data and/or Personal Information deleted from their systems.
5. Use of Non-Personally Identifiable Information
You understand and agree that Altus may compile information related to your use of the Site, including but not limited to your Examination Data, and, either alone or in collaboration with third parties, use such information for purposes of research, marketing or otherwise, provided, however, that such information shall be anonymized. You further understand and agree that these activities may include combining your anonymized Personal Information with third party data, including but not limited to demographic data collected by Academic Programs. For the sake of clarity, all Examination Data and Personal Information used for purposes of research, marketing or otherwise will be used on a non-personally identifiable basis.
If you agree to participate in one of our pilot or testing programs, we may access your webcam and/or microphone, and capture audio and video information and data during your participation. You hereby agree that any data or information so captured will be anonymized and may be used by Altus for research and development purposes.
6. Fees and Payments
All CASPer Examination fees paid to Altus are non-refundable, and only valid for the then-current admissions cycle.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, certain applicants may be eligible to receive a refund for health or compassionate reasons (e.g. death of a family member or loved one, emergency medical procedure, etc.). Under these circumstances, proper documentation from a qualified professional or institution is required. By way of clarification and example, the following do not constitute compassionate reasons and will not receive a refund:
- Change of mind or no longer having a need for the CASPer Examination;
- Incorrect program selection;
- Incorrect language selection (e.g. unintentionally reserving an English test instead of aFrench test);
- Forgetting about a scheduled test; and
- No longer being considered for admission by an Academic Program.
Altus services are available at the price points advertised on the Site. Altus reserves the right to change the pricing at any time.
For all web-based purchases, all payments must be made by means of a valid credit card. Altus accepts major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. Please be sure to provide the exact e-mail address, telephone number and the billing address your credit card bank has on file for you. Incorrect information may cause a delay in processing your order. If your credit card transaction is approved, and completed through our payment system, and is subsequently rejected by you or a financial institution involved in the payment process (a ” Chargeback “), you will be charged a $50.00 Chargeback fee in the currency of your test booking to cover bank charges and associated administrative work.
Payments must be made in full before you can take the CASPer Examination. Accounts with payable balances will prevent your results from being sent to Academic Programs you select. Furthermore, if any amounts are due on your account, you will not be allowed access to take any further CASPer Examination until your account is brought up to date.
7. Taking the CASPer Examination; Technical Requirements
You understand and agree that the CASPer Examination must be taken in a location that has access to high-speed internet connection and on a desktop or laptop computer with a working webcam, as these are the only supported devices. The CASPer Examination is not supported on alternative devices, such as phones, iPads or tablets, and Altus does not guarantee a successful test experience if any of these unsupported devices are used. Furthermore, you must ensure that the location where you are taking the CASPer Examination is one where you will not be disturbed or distracted.
We highly recommend that prior to taking the examination, you go through and complete the “CASPer System Requirements Check” found on your CASPer account. While completion of the CASPer System Requirements Check is not mandatory, it is the only way to ensure that your device and its webcam are compatible with the CASPer Examination platform. Altus can not guarantee that the CASPer Examination will run properly on your device; however, by successfully completing and passing the CASPer Systems Requirements Check, you will minimize the likelihood of technical problems when taking the CASPer Examination. Applicants who take the CASPer Examination without having successfully completed the CASPer System Requirements Check do so at their own peril and run the risk of not being able to take the examination or encountering problems during the examination. Altus shall bear no responsibility for any such failure or problem.
8. Academic Integrity and Monitoring
Honesty and integrity are of utmost importance to Altus and the academic programs with which it is associated. As such, any breach of honesty or integrity is taken very seriously and may have grave consequences. It is each Applicant’s responsibility to know, understand, and follow the policies set forth herein.
Subject to approval of special accommodations (as set forth in Section 11 below), the person registering for the use of this Site must be one and the same as the person taking the CASPer Examination; you may not allow anyone to take the CASPer Examination in your stead, nor are you allowed to get assistance from a third party in taking the CASPer Examination. As with any examination, subject to pre-authorized accessibility arrangements, you may not talk, electronically chat or otherwise interact with any other person during the CASPer Examination.
Each applicant may only have one (1) registered CASPer account. Thus, in order to avoid attempts at cheating by taking more than one CASPer Examination of the same type during the same admissions cycle, applicants of the CASPer Examination are prohibited from having more than one CASPer Account registered to their name. Applicants who are found to have created more than one CASPer Account and/or registered for multiple CASPer Examinations of the same type during a single admissions cycle are subject to having their test score(s) discredited and being reported to the Academic Programs, at the full discretion of Altus.
In order to reduce the likelihood of cheating, Altus has developed an on-line proctoring system and may, at any time and from time to time, during your CASPer Examination session, remotely monitor your access to the service to ensure compliance with the terms hereof. Such monitoring and may include keystroke, audio and visual proctoring, including the use of webcam and computer microphone. Access to your devices is mandatory, and lack of required devices (including, but not limited to webcam and microphone) and/or denial of access to your devices shall constitute grounds to deny you access to the CASPer Examination. Altus’ remote monitoring shall be conducted in a manner that does not unreasonably interfere with your taking of the CASPer Examination.
In the event that the remote monitoring reveals any administrative non-compliance with the terms of this Agreement (such as failure to pay the appropriate fees), Altus may at its sole discretion, and without any liability to you, stop your CASPer Examination, cancel your reservation, and/or refrain from distributing the results of your CASPer Examination to the Academic Programs.
In the event that Altus’s proctoring system or examiners identify any suspicious activity or that Altus, in its reasonable discretion, believes that you are taking a CASPer Examination for the purpose of scraping content, disclosing any CASPer Examination content publicly or privately, or otherwise cheating on, or giving yourself or others an unfair advantage on the CASPer Examination (each a “Suspicious Activity”), Altus may, at its sole discretion, halt your test, and may, whether or not the examination has been halted, without any liability to you, report any such Suspicious Activity to the Academic Programs, giving them the ability to determine the significance of the reported action to their selection process. Any such reporting may be done by Altus without any notice to you.
9. CASPer Examination Scheduling
Applicants of the CASPer Examination have 15 minutes from their scheduled test start time to access their Account and begin the CASPer Examination. Should you fail to access your Account and begin the CASPer Examination within the allotted time, Altus shall have the right to block your access to your Account or the CASPer Examination and you will be asked to reschedule to the next test date in the admissions cycle, if available.
You can only reschedule the CASPer Examination prior to having started the online examination process; once you have started taking the CASPer Examination or initiated a session, you can not stop and complete at a later time.
A finite number of CASPer Examination sessions are scheduled during each admissions cycle. If you are registered to take the last scheduled CASPer Examination in any admissions cycle and you try to reschedule your CASPer Examination, you miss your scheduled start time, or Altus terminates your access to the CASPer Examination because you are found to be cheating or otherwise in breach of these Terms and Conditions, you will have no further opportunity to take the CASPer Examination until the next admissions cycle. In such case, you will bear all responsibility for failure to meet the Academic Programs’ deadlines.
Additional information about the CASPer Examination and its format may be found at https://takecasper.com/aboutcasper/.
10. Scoring and Results of the CASPer Examination
The CASPer Examination is scored by carefully selected individuals using a proprietary methodology and guidelines developed by Altus. Your CASPer Examination results will be sent directly to the Academic Programs. Scorers of the CASPer Examination may from time to time flag certain inappropriate or unusual responses as Suspicious Activity. Altus may at its sole discretion report such Suspicious Activity to the Academic Programs without any further notice to the Applicant. Altus may also, at its sole discretion share with the Academic Programs other information collected through your use of the Site, such as communications with applicant support, concerns about your identity, etc.
All CASPer Examination results are final and not subject to review. No request for re-scoring or review of a CASPer Examination will be entertained.
11. Special Accommodations
For applicants requiring special accommodation, a formal request and supporting documentation must be provided at least three (3) weeks in advance of the applicant taking the test, in order to allow sufficient time for document review and a decision on appropriate accommodation. The formal request and supporting documentation must be sent via email to email@example.com and should include your CASPer account ID and other personal identifiers (AAMC number, OMSAS number, etc.).
All documents submitted are strictly confidential and will only be used to determine accommodation decisions. Your accommodation status will not be shared with the Academic Program you have applied for, or anyone evaluating your test.
Additional information about CASPer Examination accommodations and the associated request forms may be found at https://takecasper.com/faq/#accommodations.
